Engaging youth in agriculture has been a major concern lately. It has risen to the top of the development strategy, as there is rising concern around the world that young people are losing interest in agriculture.

But, surprisingly these two young graduates who lost their jobs in Singapore are gaining recognition among the Malaysians in chilli farming field.

Known as Sivaprasad and Logeswaran, they started sprouting chilies on the 0.32-hectare plot of land in Padang Tembak, near Kluang, Johor. It was a success for them as all their hard works paid off. Both were left in limbo when their previous working place was about to shut down amid the pandemic peak.

“Farming is a profession of hope.” — Brett Brian

As their business grew, they were confronted with a new challenge: the landowner wanted to sell the plot. Kluang MIC chairman Raman M. Gobinayer, impressed by the youth’s initiative, sought the assistance of state exco representatives for agriculture, agro-based manufacturing, and rural development Samsolbari Jamali and for health and environment R. Vidyananthan on their behalf.

They intend to assist the duo in securing the property by finding an appropriate plot to begin their estate.

Well done guys! Continue to be an inspiration for all the youths out there!
